The Ghost of Edinburgh Castle

High above the streets of Scotland’s capital stands the ancient fortress known as Edinburgh Castle. With centuries of history behind its walls, it is no surprise that many people believe it is haunted.

One of the most famous stories concerns a ghostly drummer boy. According to legend, whenever danger approached the castle, a mysterious drummer appeared and played warning beats. His music could be heard throughout the fortress, yet no one could ever find him.

In the nineteenth century, workers restoring parts of the castle reported hearing distant drumming from empty corridors. Thinking another crew was nearby, they followed the sound. However, the noise always seemed to move farther away.

One tour guide recalled leading a group through a tunnel beneath the castle. Several people suddenly felt uneasy and refused to continue. Later, photographs taken in the tunnel appeared to show a strange figure standing behind the group.

The image could never be fully explained. Some suggested it was a trick of light, while others believed it captured evidence of a ghost.

Today, Edinburgh Castle remains one of the most visited landmarks in Scotland. Alongside its rich history, tales of spirits continue to attract curious travelers from around the world.
